An open lecture in English was held at the Department of Mechatronics and Packaging Technology on October 11, 2023. The theme of the lecture was "Protective atmosphere packaging". The discipline was "Packaging Technologies". PhD Anastasiia Derenivska gave a lecture. Participants and visitors were 4th year students of PM-4-1 group and lecturers.
Students learned about the processes that occur in the food products inside the package atmosphere; different types of an atmosphere inside the food packaging and packing methods:
1. AP (Atmosphere Packaging) - the air parameters inside the package and the ambient parameters outside the package are the same. The pressure in the package equals the ambient pressure;
2. IP (Isobaric packaging) - the pressure inside a package is bigger than the ambient pressure;
3. MAР (Modified atmosphere packaging) - modifies the composition of the internal atmosphere of a package. Main gases for creating atmosphere in this method are Carbon dioxide, Nitrogen, Oxygen;
4. VP (Vacuum packaging) - the pressure inside a package is lower than ambient pressure;
5. IP (Inert gas packaging) - using Inert gas of the internal atmosphere of a package (N2 or others);
6. CAP. Controlled Atmosphere Packaging permanent alters the gaseous atmosphere in and around the food product to increase its shelf life.
We mentioned also SCAP - method with self - control gas atmosphere inside a packaging; АGAР - actively - control gas atmosphere packaging; АМР - antimicrobic packaging; RTP - retortable packaging.
The lecture was interesting, full of advanced and important information.
Students demonstrated a strong understanding of the material from previous lectures and actively engaged in learning new content.
