The department offers Bachelor and Master programs for the specialists in canning, food and concentrate, and fishing branches of the food industry in the following specializations: 181 Food Technologies, Technologies of Storage, Preservation, and Processing of Fruits and Vegetables, Technologies of Food Concentrates Manufacturing Based on Fruit and Vegetable Raw Materials, Tea, Coffee and Spices, and Technologies for Storage and Processing of Water Biological Resources.
The material and technical base of the department includes modern scientific and educational laboratories, as well as multimedia educational equipment. The department is sufficiently computerized, which allows the teachers of the department to work appropriately on the creation of methodological recommendations, lecture notes and educational materials, improvement of the educational process, and conducting complex engineering calculations.
For the sake of improvement of the quality of specialists' training, as well as integration of the educational process into production, the department closely cooperates with the leading industry companies such as SANDORA, CHUMAK, VERSE, TORCHIN-PRODUKT, Nizhyn Canning Factory, Agrana Frut, PJSC Ukrbakalia, Lantmannen Aksa and Company May Ukraine Ltd., etc. At these enterprises, students have the opportunity to undertake technological and pre-diploma interships, write a term paper or thesis. On-site practical and laboratory courses are systematically held at enterprises of Kyiv region.
The academic staff of the department includes 2 professors, 4 assistant professors, 2 senior lecturers, and 4 assistants.
Since the establishment of the department, it introduced integrated interdepartment diploma projects, which have been defended at the enterprises with the active participation of producers.
The students with the best academic performance are involved in this kind of work starting from the third year of studies, whereas the students of the fourth and fifth year participate in scientific work in a specialized laboratory. The scientific developments of the scientists of the department are demonstrated at the all-Ukrainian and international conferences, competitions, and exhibitions where they receive proper recognition (certificates).
In the process of developing working curricula and course programs, the best practices of foreign technology universities are implemented. The course programs are systematically reviewed.
Over a relatively short but fruitful period since its foundation, the department has trained over 350 engineer technologists. Graduates hold positions of civil servants, chief engineers, head chiefs, heads of laboratories, shift technologists, technologist engineers at large and small enterprises involved in the production of canned fruits and vegetables, food concentrates, and products of storage and processing of aquatic biological resources.
Young teachers of the department systematically improve their qualification at the enterprises of Kyiv and Ukraine in general.
Heads and members of the State Examination Commissions for the diploma projects and master theses are the leading experts and scholars.
