The department carries out training of specialists in the field of knowledge 18 "Production and technology" according to the educational degree "Bachelor" on specialty 181 "Food Technologies", according to the educational degree "Master" in specialty 181 "Food Technologies" and educational program "Technologies of products of fermentation and winemaking".
The department of biotechnology of fermentation and winemaking products is a team of like-minded people, united by common aspirations - to prepare highly skilled specialists for the food industry in independent Ukraine. During the years of its existence, the department has trained more than 6000 engineer-technologists, specialists, and masters of fermentation productions, including for foreign countries (Russian Federation, Republic of Moldova, Turkmenistan, China, Cuba, Mongolia, Hungary, Vietnam, etc.). Graduates of the department hold senior positions at the enterprises of food industry of Ukraine and the near abroad.
The department also provides professional training of "Bachelors" by correspondence form of study in the separate structures of the university in L'viv.
Each year, the staff of the department receives 5-8 patents and publishes about 20 scientific articles. The results of scientific research are reported at international and all-Ukrainian scientific conferences.
For the educational process and scientific work, the department has three educational and one-research laboratories, equipped with equipment that provides the necessary level of training of specialists. Students and postgraduates use the university library.
Practical skills are acquired by students during the practice at the advanced enterprises of the industry and in the branch research institutes through the crosscutting program of practice - two technological and pre-graduate.
The topics of diploma projects are reconstruction or construction of new enterprises.
Each year the students perform inter-departmental integrated diploma projects, the protection of which is carried out at existing enterprises with the active participation of producers.
Students with high potential are attracted from the third year, and students of the fifth year all take part in the scientific work of the department.
In order to improve the training of specialists in the curriculum, such disciplines as "Innovative technologies of the industry", "Management of innovative projects", "Metrology, standardization, certification", "Licensing and quality management", "Intellectual property", etc. have been introduced.
The department has all the proper conditions for the training of highly qualified specialists in industry and scientific and pedagogical workers of higher qualification.
