The Department of Thermal Power and Refrigeration Engineering provides professional education for bachelors and masters in educational programs:

  • Thermal power engineering and energy efficient technologies
  • Energy management and audit
  • Renewable and alternative energy
  • Refrigeration and technology
  • Artificial climate systems and air conditioning

and in the specialties 144 «Thermal Power Engineering» and 142 «Power Machinery».

Also, the lecturers of the department take part in the teaching of other specialists such as process engineers and mechanical engineers.

The department has specialized laboratories:

  • Fuel and high temperature units;
  • Heat and mass transfer units and air conditioning;
  • Refrigerating machines;
  • Refrigeration units s and refrigeration technology;
  • Repair and mounting of refrigeration units;
  • 3D modeling of thermodynamic processes.

Branches of the department are based on Kyivenergo enterprises, sugar plants, thermal power plants, bakeries, hypermarkets, logistics warehouses, design organizations, research institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and other enterprises of food industry.

The staff of the department consists of more than twenty persons, including ten professors and thirteen associate professors. The department engages for part-time teaching well-known scientists and experienced manufacturing professionals. The staff of the department is replenished annually by young teachers-graduates of the department.

There are academicians, doctors, candidates of sciences, professors, associate professors, public figures and high-ranking executives among the graduates of the department. Specialists in thermal power and refrigeration engineering successfully work in the positions of engineers for operation, installation, design and adjustment of systems of heat and cold supply, heads of workshops, heads of thermal power plants, chief engineers and directors of enterprises. Many graduates work as managers and directors in business structures, including companies that supply heat and refrigeration equipment to the market of Ukraine. Those who have a penchant for research can work in academic or industry research institutions.

Our graduates honor the native department and the department doesn’t forget about them. The department booth shows the names of all graduates since its inception.

There is a postgraduate studies at the university. Postgraduate students of the department have the opportunity to defend their dissertations in the specialty 05.14.06 «Technical Thermophysics and Industrial Heat Power Engineering».

The department has all prerequisites for the training of highly qualified industry specialists and scientific and pedagogical workers of higher qualification.

THE TOPIC OF RESEARCH WORK OF THE TEACHERS OF THE DEPARTMENT COVERS THE FOLLOWING MAIN AREAS:

  • research, mathematical modeling and optimization of the thermal technological complexes of food production in order to improve the thermal technological regimes and rational use of fuel and energy resources;
  • analytical and experimental research of hydrodynamic, heat and mass transfer processes in the working elements of heat and mass transfer equipment in order to develop new designs of heat and mass transfer apparatus;
  • analytical and experimental research of thermodynamic processes in the working channels of film evaporators;
  • research of biomass burning in association with coal (jointly with the Institute of Coal Energy Technologies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine);
  • research of the operation of refrigeration units of food enterprises in order to reduce energy costs for production and improve its quality;
  • development of methods of calculation and design of panel ice generators, cold storage batteries;
  • research of the influence of temperature and parameters of water vapor on the restoration of adsorption properties of adsorbents for the food industry.

Department of Heat Engineering was created

was reorganized into the Department of Thermal Power Engineering

the first graduation of specialists in the specialty «Industrial heat power engineering»

1965

two departments were created on the basis of the teaching staff of the Department of Thermal Power Engineering: the Department of Industrial Thermal Power Engineering and the Department of Theoretical and General Heat Engineering

1974

after reforming the Department of Special Equipment of Food Production, the laboratory of refrigeration engineering, all disciplines of this profile and teachers were transferred to the Department of Industrial Thermal Power Engineering

1976

on the basis of the scientific potential of the department a specialized scientific council was created under the chairmanship of prof. N.Yu.Tobilevich for the defense of the dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in the specialties 05.14.04 - «Industrial Thermal Power Engineering» and 05.18.12 - «Processes and Apparatus of Food Production»

1994

HAC of Ukraine approved a specialized scientific council, which received the right to carry out the state certification of candidate's theses in the specialties 05.14.04 «Industrial Thermal Power Engineering» and 05.13.07 «Automation of technological processes and production» under the chairmanship of prof. M.O. Priadko

1997

training of specialists in the specialty «Refrigeration Machines and Units» in all forms of study has begun at the department

1998

the Institute of Problems of Energy in the Food Industry was created on the basis of the Department of Industrial Thermal Power Engineering - the first specialized scientific and engineering unit of our university

the Department Industrial Thermal Power Engineering was renamed to the Department of Thermal Power and Refrigeration Engineering

2002

the first issue of specialists in the specialty «Refrigeration Machines and Units»

2013

the Department of Heat Engineering was merged with the Department of Thermal Power and Refrigeration Engineering
