The department of machines and apparatus of food and pharmaceutical productions (MAFPP) trains specialists in the field of knowledge 13 ‘Mechanical Engineering’, specialization 133 ‘Industrial Engineering’ in the following educational degrees: ‘Bachelor’ - under the educational and professional program “Engineering of food and biotechnological production”; “Master” - under the educational and professional programs “Engineering of food production” (specialization - “Equipment of fermentation production”; “Equipment of bakery production”; ‘Equipment for Meat and Milk Processing); Engineering of Pharmaceutical and Biotechnological Production; Engineering of Printing and Packaging Production; and Doctor of Philosophy - under the educational and scientific program Machines and Apparatus of Food, Microbiological and Pharmaceutical Production.
The department also trains specialists for a bachelor's degree in the field of knowledge 18 ‘Production and Technology’, specialization 186 ‘Publishing and Printing’, under the educational and professional program ‘Computer Technologies for Packaging Design and Production’.
The academic disciplines taught by the department's teachers for applicants for the specialization 133 ‘Industrial Engineering’ are aimed at developing competencies in mechanical engineering and product manufacturing technology, mastering computer technologies in design and calculation, familiarizing themselves with the structure and principle of operation of technological equipment, and methods of its efficient operation. The Department of MAFPP is also a graduating department for bachelors of specialization 186 ‘Publishing and Printing’. The educational components of this program (Publishing, printing and packaging materials, Printing production technologies, Packaging production technologies and equipment, Packaging production, Publishing and printing production equipment, Computer aided design and packaging production) are aimed at training specialists who will be able to construct packaging, develop its design, propose manufacturing technology and organize the production of publishing and printing products. The updated list of disciplines corresponds to the modern programs of the world's leading universities in this field. In this regard, the department has developed teaching and methodological complexes for all disciplines, and in recent years alone, about one hundred and fifty methodological recommendations have been published to provide them to students of all forms of education.
Teachers of the department give lectures, conduct practical and laboratory classes in the disciplines ‘Food Production Equipment’, ‘Chemical Engineering’, ‘Bioprocess Engineering. Module 2’, “CAD”, “Materials Science”, “Chemical Engineering” for technological specializations: ‘Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Food Technology and Engineering, Chemical Technology and Engineering, as well as Basics of Computer Aided Design, Designing of Hotel and Restaurant Industry Sites, Equipment of Hotel and Restaurant Industry for the specialization Hotel and Restaurant Business. In the 2021-2022 academic year, NUFT launched the training of applicants under the interdisciplinary program ‘LEAN Food Production’, and the teachers of the department are its co-developers.
Specialized laboratories of fermentation and dairy production, meat processing and bakery industries, pharmaceutical and microbiological industries, publishing, printing and packaging industries with working samples of equipment are used in the educational process.
The department has three computer classes equipped with modern personal computers. In their academic and research work, students use AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo Parametric software to create three-dimensional models of equipment and perform engineering calculations; Nastran, a system for modelling two-dimensional boundary value problems in continuum mechanics; Autodesk CFD software to model fluid flow. In computer classes, software is used for the teacher to demonstrate examples of tasks completed by students.
The department provides training under the educational and scientific program ‘Machines and apparatus of food, microbiological and pharmaceutical production’ in the specialization 133 ‘Branch Engineering’. In 2021, the first dissertation defense was successfully held for this program.
Over the years, the department has trained about 9300 specialists for the food, pharmaceutical, publishing and printing industries, many of whom work in management and engineering positions in industry.
