The team of the Department of tourism and hotel business provides high-quality educational services according to the educational and professional programs of speciality 242 «Tourism and Recreation»: the educational and professional program «Tourism» of the bachelor's level of higher education (implemented in Ukrainian and English languages), educational and the professional program «Tourism and Recreation» of the master's level of higher education (implemented in the Ukrainian language). In 2022, for the first time in Ukraine, the training of specialists under the interdisciplinary educational and scientific program «Industrial and Craft Technologies for HoReCa in Tourism» began in specialities 181 «Food technology» and 242 «Tourism and recreation». The stuff of the Department of tourism and hotel business is also involved in the training of specialists under the educational and professional programs of the bachelor's and master's levels of higher education, speciality 241 «Hotel and Restaurant Business» and speciality 181 «Food technology» («Technologies in Restaurant Business», «Technologies of Dietary and Ayurvedic Food Products»).

The practical training of specialists in tourism and recreation involves professional, technological, excursion and production types of practices and is carried out using the material and technical base of National Technical University of Ukraine and at leading enterprises of the tourism and hotel sphere: hotels «Hilton Kyiv», «Fairmont», «Intercontinental», «President Hotel», international travel companies «Travel Professional Group», «Coral Travel», «TUI Group», «Join Up», Ukrainian travel operators «Extravaganza of Travels». The material base of the Department includes the Office of Tourism Studies, the Training Laboratory «Tourist Firm», the Laboratory of Innovative Technologies in Tourism and Hotel Management.

In parallel with the educational process, educational excursions, lectures and seminars, trips to interesting tourist attractions of our country, visits to specialized exhibitions are organized for the applicants.

Considerable attention is paid at the Department to raising the level of professional skills of lecturers and establishing international cooperation. Every year, for the purpose of language and professional practice, as well as internships, students and teachers study the practical experience of organizing tourism in European countries.

In 2018, the Department joined the WINTOUR international consortium, which was started by leading universities in Spain, France, and Portugal - Rovira i Virgili University (Tarragona, Spain), University of Bordeaux (Bordeaux, France), and University of Porto (Porto, Portugal) with the aim of creating a master's program in wine tourism International Master on Wine Tourism Innovation (WINTOUR). Now National University of Food Technologies is an associate member of the WINTOUR consortium, and our students can study innovative technologies of wine tourism organization at leading European universities.

The lecturers of the Department have published the textbooks «Organization of Hotel Management», «Innovative Technologies in Tourism and Hotel Management», «Hospitality of the World: Theory and Practice», «Organization of Hotel and Restaurant Business», training manual «Global Distribution Systems», as well as monographs «Management of sales activities of tourist enterprises», «Formation of an innovative product of cruise tourism», «Wine and gastronomic tourism: global trends and local practices», handbooks and methodical instructions and recommendations, reference abstracts of lectures, a number of scientific articles, including in foreign editions.

Teachers and graduates of the Department take an active part in tourist forums and festivals, scientific conferences, symposia, Olympiads and competitions, as well as organize round tables, scientific and practical seminars, and the International scientific and practical conference «Practice and prospects for the development of wine and gastronomic tourism: world experience for Ukraine».

The main tasks of the Department are: training of specialists capable of comprehensively solving complex operational and strategic tasks and management problems of tourism and recreation enterprises at a high professional level; formation of general and professional competences for successful implementation of professional (economic, organizational-management, operational-technological) activities in the field of tourism and recreation.
