Foreign languages are becoming extremely important today both in the field of personal communication and professional interaction, due to the dynamic changes in society, which have become a consequence of globalization processes in all spheres of human activity as well as the emergence of innovative technologies.

Taking into account the role of English, French and German as languages of international communication in the world and in order to ensure the integration of Ukraine into the European political, economic and scientific and educational space, teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages for Professional Purposes, who work with students of technological and technical majors, face important tasks. First, in a short period of time, to teach applicants primarily a functional foreign language for effective interpersonal and business communication in a foreign language environment. Secondly, to gradually form in students the ability to use a foreign language for practical work in the field, increase their professional communication level, and achieve career goals.

In order to improve the level of pedagogical skills, teachers get acquainted with the latest teaching methods, special teaching techniques, thus they could choose an appropriate and effective method according to the level of knowledge and interests of learners, to draw their attention and interest to the language. In order to confirm knowledge of a foreign language competence at the B2 level and above, as well as to understand the specifics of international exams for quality training of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Postgraduate students, teachers successfully pass exams and receive international certificates.

The Department provides training for students at the educational and qualification levels of "Bachelor", "Master" and "Doctor of Philosophy" in the following disciplines: "Foreign Language (for Professional Use)", "Foreign Language for Academic and Professional Communication", "Foreign Language: Practical Scientific Communication Skills", "Scientific Communication in a Foreign Language", "Foreign Language for Engineering", "Business Foreign Language", "Everyday English", "Second Foreign Language", "Intensive Course on Foreign Language", "Professional Communication in a Foreign Language" , "Professional Communication in a Foreign Language".

TOPICS OF RESEARCH WORK OF DEPARTMENT'S TEACHERS COVER THE FOLLOWING MAIN AREAS:

• implementation of scientific research work of the Department on the topic " Professional communication in foreign languages: methodological, scientific, translation aspects of teaching (training of higher education students)" No. 01216109158;

• compilation of Curricula of the disciplines taught at the Department and development of syllabi for them for students of I-V years of studies in technological and engineering-technical specialties at institutes and departments of the National University of Food Technologies;

• publication of educational and methodological materials for students of I-V years of studies of full-time and part-time forms of education of all majors;

• formation of foreign-language professionally-oriented competence in speaking in students of non-linguistic specialties;

• use of innovative means of teaching foreign languages for applicants (in particular, electronic, audio and video materials);

• improvement of ways of teaching foreign languages in the context of the Bologna process;

• improving the qualifications and level of professional training of the Department's teachers: conducting and attending open classes at the Department (according to the schedule), passing exams to confirm the level of foreign language proficiency, attending professional lectures, scientific and methodological seminars on current problems of philology, theory and methods of teaching foreign languages, as well as courses in the network of domestic and foreign organizations Speak-Up, British Council, America House, International House, Longman Pearson, London School of English, etc.
