The department of Mathematics was created simultaneously with the foundation of the Kiev Technological Institute of Sugar Industry.

The lecturers of this department work at all faculties of the university and provide the teaching of the following academic disciplines: «Higher Mathematics», «Probability and Statistics», «Theory of Probabilities and Random Processes», «Higher Mathematics for Economists», «Mathematics», «Higher Mathematics for Food Technologies», «Discrete Mathematics».

The lecturers are working on the methodological recommendations development, lecture synapses and studying manuals in order to improve the educational process. The best and most modern practices of other higher educational institutions are being used to develop curricula and subject syllabi.

Lecturers of this department also train specialists in regional training centers which are separated structural units of NUFT.

The lecturers of the department actively participate foreign, international and All-Ukrainian conferences annually.

The Department of Higher Mathematics of NUHT collaborates with the scientific and higher educational institutions of Ukraine: NAS Ukraine Institute of Mathematics, NAS Ukraine Institute of Mechanics named after S.P. Tymoshenko, Shevchenko National University, National Aerospace University n. a. M.E. Zhukovsky «KHAI», Drahomanov National Pedagogical University, National University of Bioresources and Nature Management, National Technical University «KPI», National Aviation University, Lviv National University n. a. Ivan Franko, Kamyanets-Podilsky National University n.a. I. Ogienko.

A mathematical scientific students’ group «Olimpiada» works at the department. It is aimed on training of students to achieve the 2nd stage of the All-Ukrainian Mathematics competition. The Head of the group is V.V. Lystopad, Docent

NOWADAYS THE CHAIR’S SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH WORK IS BEING CARRIED OUT ACCORDING TO DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS:

• Development of mathematical models and analytical-numerical methods of research the same as optimization of bodies’ mechanical behavior, taking into consideration the influence, caused by fields of different physical nature and defects. Research of mathematical physics equations;
• Research in the field of approximation theory, function spaces, and complex analysis. Economic phenomena mathematical modeling. Methods of solving linear and nonlinear programming optimization problems. General nonlinear criteria synthesis in the food quality assessment tasks;
• Research in the stability theory of differential equations solution, in the physical nature trends revealing and their application for hydrodynamics and ballistics problems.

Developing students’ textbooks and training manuals, the lecturers of the chair are simultaneously working on both the lecture courses and methodological recommendations for the disciplines study publication and renewal, the same as fulfillment of computational graphic lab sessions on the disciplines of the chair. Wide use of computer technology by teachers has greatly increased the level and improved the quality of guidance papers.

The chair carries out specialists training for research degree in specialties 01.02.04 «Mechanics of deformed solids», 01.01.07 «Computational Mathematics».

The lecturers of the department take an active part in foreign, international and all-Ukrainian conferences annually.
