The Department of Physics and Occupational Safety of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Environmental Control of the NUFT provides educational programs in the following compulsory disciplines: "Physics", "Engineering Physics", "Physics for Food Technologies", “Life Safety and Occupational Safety”, “Occupational Safety Management at the Facility”, “Fundamentals of Occupational Safety and Life Safety” for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree both full-time and part-time, across four faculties/institutes of the university (Educational and Scientific Institute of Food Technology, Academician I.S. Guliy Educational and Scientific Engineering and Technical Institute, Faculty of Biotechnology and Environmental Control, and Faculty of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Business named after professor V. F. Dotsenko). For students pursuing a bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Automation and Computer Systems named after Prof. I.V. Elperin, the Department of Physics and Occupational Safety offers courses in the following elective disciplines: “Physical Fundamentals of Computer Electronics,” “Physics,” and “Fundamentals of Occupational Safety.” For students pursuing a bachelor's degree in biotechnology and environmental control, the Department of Physics and Occupational Safety offers a course in the elective discipline “Fundamentals of Industrial Construction and Sanitary Engineering.” Also, since 2021, the department has launched training for applicants in elective disciplines from the university-wide catalog “Tribophysics: Laws of Friction” and “Physical Research Methods” for the educational and scientific degree of “Doctor of Philosophy” in full-time and part-time forms of education. Since September 2025, the department has been implementing the course “Theoretical training in Basic Military Training” for students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in all specialties and all educational and professional programs in the second year of training (based on the CGSE) and the first year of training (based on NQF Level 5) (for male students, the discipline is compulsory, for female students, it is voluntary).

Teachers also teach disciplines such as “Physics”, “Physics for Food Technology”, “Engineering Physics”, “Life Safety and Occupational Safety” at the Poltava and Sumy branches of the NUFT. In order to raise awareness of safety issues among students and deepen their general competencies, guest lectures have been held at NUFT vocational colleges on the topic of  “Safety in educational institutions and everyday life.”

The department's material and technical base includes seven teaching laboratories and one research laboratory.

Scientific and teaching staff of the Department of Physics and Occupational Safety actively conduct scientific research, the results of which are published in well-known domestic and international journals, included in the Scopus and Web of Science scientific metric databases, and actively participate in foreign, international, and all-Ukrainian conferences and seminars.

The department maintains close scientific cooperation with scientific and teaching staff at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University, and Mykhailo Dragomanov National University. Our staff also cooperates with the Polissya Institute of Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. The result of joint work with other scientific institutions and higher education institutions over the past academic year is 5 articles (4 of which are SCOPUS and 1 is Web of Science), as well as 1 thesis presented at an international conference.

Since 2017, the department has signed eight official cooperation agreements with the above-mentioned higher education institutions at the organizational level, and upon their expiration in 2024, four of them were renewed.

On May 26-27, 2020, the Department of Physics in conjunction with the Mozhar Department of Higher Mathematics, launched and held the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Methodical Internet Conference “Current Scientific and Methodical Problems of Physics and Mathematics in Higher Education Institutions,” which was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the founding of our departments.

On November 26, 2019, the department also organized an international scientific and practical seminar entitled “Improvement of Physical Methods of Food Quality Control,” dedicated to the 135th anniversary of our university's founding. Specialists from Bruker Bio Spin GmbH (Germany) from the  agro-industrial complex were invited to the event: Dr. Markus Link (Key Account Manager), Lea Heinz (Product Manager Food Screener), and Thomas Spengler (Market Manager). They presented the latest technologies for detecting counterfeit food products, inсluding honey, using nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR). The event attracted considerable interest from honey exporters.
